Are you sure you want to buy a TT for your family? How many times will you be going out in a season. (of course, in CA there is a 12 month season) Would you consider renting a couple of times to be sure you like the idea of camping? What about renting cabins at a campground? A TT that sits around for 50 weeks out of the year is a big financial drain.
