If a deposit is refundable on request of the buyer then what would be the point of a dealer even taking a deposit?
The whole point of a deposit is to obligate the purchaser and seller to perform the sale while allowing an amount of time for things necessary for the sale to be accomplished. ie: financing, constructing, ordering, delivering etc.
I've learned a lot in this process (my first time). First, I'll never EVER sign anything like this again. Sadly, I'd have to say a car purchase is a much safer situation than an RV purchase. These contracts are unbelievable, and totally tilted in favor of the dealer.
And yes, I signed the darn thing. I really thought this dealer would at least let me use the $1k on parts or maybe split the deposit. They just would not budge. Lesson learned. I'm out $1k, but at least I didn't take delivery from these guys. A business this hell bent for $1k has some serious money flow issues, I'd think.
