Travel trailer questions

We are thinking of upgrading from our 24 foot Sunline to a 2014 Forest River RV Flagstaff Super Lite 27RLWS Travel Trailer.

Does anyone have any experience with this model/manufacturer?

I am interested in learning about automatic and or power levelling for a travel trailer. Any guidance would be appreciated.

  • We also owned a Sunline for 10 years....so I think you'll find out that you've been "spoiled" by the quality of Sunline trailers. In my search for a new rig, we ended up choosing a Winnebago product because their features and "fit and finish" appears to be better than so many other brands. I can't speak specifically about the unit you are considering, but I encourage you to look at a lot of other makes that make a trailer with the same floor plan, or one that will work for you.

We haven't owned or used the Winnebago long enough to sing it's praises, but so far, it's been a good trailer. But, by next year this time, I think I'll be in a better position to do so!
  • We have the twin to skipnchar's and have had problems with wheel hubs & axles from the second year of ownership. We have towed ours about 30,000 miles (ballpark figure). We did visit the factory (a few years after we purchased ours) and were pretty impressed with how they are put together, especially for a lightweight unit, so I'm pretty sure we just got a lemon. Nevertheless, just FYI. Haven't seen the model you describe. Forest River IMO makes decent campers, but perhaps not the best consideration for very heavy usage. Very comfortable inside, and lots of little niceties that some other manufacturers don't think of - lights in the pass-thru storage compartment, heated mattress, space for a clothes hamper, stuff like that. Lots of storage space - too much, in fact, in ours, since it has a very low cargo capacity for its size.
  • Proud owner of an '14 Rockwood 2703ws for about 2 months; only took it out for 3 trips so far but no problems. Get all the bells and wistles and Emerald Package.
I think I would prefer the old style crank up levelers. the powered ones seem to allow more shifting from side to side because of there design.
Would buy another in a heartbeat.........
  • I've never owned the model but do have the brand. My Rockwood has been a very solid well made trailer from day one. Had one warranty concern during it's two year warranty period and that was a water supply valve on the thetford toilet. Being under warranty saved us approximately $40.00

After 50,000 towing miles we had our first more significant concern come up when the converter quit working on the way home from Alaska. Stopped in a dealer in Northern Washington and had it replaced for $350.00 which took about an hour of our time.

Now after well over 80,000 towing miles it continues to give good service with few problems.

    Good luck / Skip
  • IMHO the power leveling is just one more thing to maintain snd adds weight, However if you want it, have it added on. It works.
