What negatives have you heard and what year are you looking at? Having a GC really depends on your needs and how you intend to use the vehicle. We bought a Jeep Commander, which is similar in capabilities to the GC (Hemi V8, 7500lbs tow rating, luxury ammenitites, etc), because we needed something to go off-roading in, tow our trailer with, and seat 7. The Commander was the only vehicle that checked all of the boxes for us. Our Jeep is more than capable of handling all of the tasks we ask of it. I think if Jeep had done a better job of marketing it, the Commander would still be in production. They just never showed off all that it could do!
The scenario for the GC is similar. There is so much that it can do but most people don't use them to their full potential. Jeeps weren't meant to be parking lot queens. :)
I am not sure if any of that helps or not. If not, let us know more specifics on what you are looking for in a vehicle in addition to the tow rating.
