You will never sell it for the amount of money you put into it. Any money you put into it will be of value to YOU only. So, if you want to repair it and use it yourself, yes ... it's worth it. If you are doing it for re-sale... no... you're loosing your shirt!
^^This. If you are doing it to sell, don't bother. But if you are doing it to use it, and if you like working on it, then go for it. I am doing this exact thing. I wanted a toy hauler but didn't have or want to spend over $40,000 for what I wanted. So I decided to build what I want. I've got the tools and the skills to do it and, for me, its like a hobby. I just like doing it. So I picked up an old travel trailer for practically nothing and stripped it to the frame and will be building it back up to a toy hauler that I want. I'm figuring I'll have about $10,000 or less in it with mainly all new mechanicals. I plan to use it for several years. And I don't plan on making any money if/when I sell it. I figure if I bought a new $40k toy hauler and used it for 8-10 years, it would likely only be worth $20k or less. That's a pretty big loss...but it's less than the $10k I'll have in mine.
So...speaking of all that, where are you located? I might have a need for some parts. :)
