Traveling northern Michigan over to Minnesotta

Have a question, How is traveling on HWY 2 top of Michigan over to Minnesota. I am thinking about coming back this way after a wedding in Grand Rapids Mn. Don't know if there are places to overnight a...

We will be coming home the Monday after Memorial Day, and we were looking forward to a nice scenic ride home to Virginia. Gas, and overnight parking are a concern for me as we are planning this trip.
