Traveling to Austin from Las Vegas

My DW and I traveled from Denver to San Diego in December and January for about 8 straight years and just checked the weather along the route we always took and never had a problem except cold weather. We always worked our way south to I-10. So I would suggest you get to I-10 and go all the way to I-35W then head North to Austin. I lived in TX for 16 years and have driven all over Texas also.Happy Travels!

Fredericksburg may be busy but it is well worth a drive thru. I love that town, the architecture of the old buildings - I will volunteer to drive thru downtown Fredericksburg any day of the week!

Hopefully I-10 is better than I-40. There are so many potholes from the big rigs on the right side lanes and there has been road construction on sections of I-40 from Kingman as far as Holbrook where I get off since we started travelling this corridor since about 2002.

New to this forum....travelling from Nashville to Sevierville/Pigeon Forge. 27 foot class A motorhome. Do not want to go through Knoxville

I did that trip last February....went through Flagstaff-->Gallup-->Albuquerque, down through Lubbock and straight to Austin. Roads were all clear, but it was cold out!

Looking closer at the google maps route, it looks good until you turn off I-10 on US 290 toward Fredericksburg and Austin. For some crazy reason known only to google maps algorithms, it says to turn on RR 2093 in the small town of Harper and return to US 290 east of Fredericksburg. There is absolutely no reason to take the small 2 lane no shoulder ranch road thru that area. Stay on US 290. It is 4 lane.

93, 60, 303, 10. If there is a weekend Phoenix 10 closure due to 202 interchange construction then 93, 60, 74, 17, 10.

I would just follow google maps suggestion and take the southernmost route suggested, being the one dropping down to I-10. That time of year any route could have some winter weather. But odds go down the farther south you go.
