Jan 19, 2016If you have a dual axle trailer, the George Washington Bridge will be an expensive toll ($50) going east into NYC. There's no toll going west, but the congestion can be a nightmare. If you can figure out a way to get to the Tappan Zee Bridge then it's much cheaper ($8 going east, no toll going west) and flows pretty good. Be very careful with getting on any of the parkways. The parkway system was designed back in the 20's; long before minimum height requirements. Lot of the parkways suffer from several low clearance bridges; some are under 7ft. If your route takes you down a parkway then it wouldn't hurt to give NYDOT a call to inquire about the lowest clearance on that parkway. That way you don't have to worry about knocking your A/C off lol.
When I'm heading through that area, I'm normally coming from further west than you are. I take 81 to 78 to 287 and then on to the Tappan Zee. From there I go 95, 91, 90, 495, the back to 95. That will get you around Boston.
