Couldn't resist putting my 2 cents in for the route.
I travel to the Boston area on a regular basis and this is the
route I take:
NJ Turnpike to
Garden state parkway to
287 east to Tappan Zee bridge to
684 to 84 east to
mass pike..
95 across the GW bridge and thru Stanford and New Haven are almost nightmares where traffic is concerned.
I would also try to avoid rush hour traffic because the NJ turnpike and Tappan Zee and interstate 84 can get pretty congested.. So for your own sanity, stop at a rest area or somewhere comfortable to avoid the aggravation ;)
Once you get north of Boston The rest of the ride is a snap..
