My main comment about choosing a shorter trailer is be very selective when doing so, to ensure the floorplan works for you. I happily spend 5 to 7 months a year in my 19' trailer while traveling and wintering in AZ. But I found when shopping that many are like a coffin inside.
Mine is very open with a slideout, plenty of windows and is light colored inside. I have also done various mods to make it suit me for those times the weather keeps me inside. Comfortable chair with ottoman, sat dish, 32" TV set, modded dinette so I have room for a 22" computer monitor for photo editing, etc. Each person's needs are different, so personalizing it is important.
Small can work if you are careful in choosing.
GMW Photos has it right. Doing a pile of carefully chosen and well thought out mods and personalizing is the key to having a smaller trailer.
Having adequate size water tanks may also be important to you. Be mindful of those specs.
