Traveling with roof vents open...good or bad idea?

I always close my trailer windows when traveling but leave the roof vents open a little. I was wondering if maybe I shouldn't be doing that.

  • Leaving a vent open creates slight negative pressure. For highway driving, not an issues, and sometimes I'll leave the vents open to dry things out.

But of off-road driving.... Close those vents! The negative pressure they create stuck dust through every door, widow, slideout, etc!

And yes, use vent covers. The pressure differential sometimes causes a cracked vent to open itself all the way, and then it can be damaged from wind buffeting.
  • My roof vents, covered with an aftermarket cover, stay open 24/7 whether stationary or traveling down the road. :) Been that way for almost 15 years on our present trailer.
