Trickle Chargers

My wife and I are new to the TT scene having upgraded from a Pop Up to a 2016 Dutchman Kodiak 291 RESL. My question is about purchasing a trickle charger to keep my Batteries charged while its parked in my Driveway. I plan on getting a 50 amp service installed but want to maintain the charge on my batteries until then and hard Mounting the trickle charger on the tongue of my trailer to have with me at all times while camping. Anyone know if this will work and if not is there a better way to keep my batteries ready to go?

IF....you leave it plugged in for 12 hours or so to get the batteries charged.....or if they are already charged from the trip.....just disconnect one main lead and you should be fine. If they won't hold a charge pretty close to full with no load and just a weeks downtime then you need new batteries.

And a real "trickle charger" is NOT appropriate for unattended use. You need a smart tender type charger like the Battery Tender brand ones already mentioned.
  • I would upgrade the converter and just leave it plugged in.
Actually any converter is fine for the Winter.
  • Thanks for the replies. I'll look into those and see what will work best for my needs. • I have one of these mounted in my F250.
It works well, and has the added benefit (IMHO) that it has a male 110 plug on it - so I just run an extension cord from the garage, and plug in my truck when it sits... It works well.
  • I use the Battery Tender Plus to keep my Tundra charged up during the winter when I don't drive it as much and it works well. It would certainly work for keeping a TT battery charged.
  • A solar charger might work. I use something like this although they sell more expensive ones that have a de-sulfate function as well.
