Where I live regular is $2.66 and diesel is $3.31. That's more than a 20% spread so the better diesel mpg is offset by the price difference.
We tow a 7500 GVW horse trailer so our next truck will a Dodge 6.4 3500 with the 4:10 rear end.
I'm ready to pull the trigger on a 6.4, but I can't find any at the dealers with the 4.10's just 3.73's given my trailer weight around the same 7500lbs wet, would I be making a mistake with 3.73's??
plenty of 14's with 3.73's around, if I want a truck with 4.10's I'm looking at ordering a 2015 and losing the $4k rebate.
We also tow a 7500 pound trailer and have the 3.73. It tows great. I didn't care about the 4.10 because we're keeping the trailer for at least a few years and when we do upgrade, it will only be to a trailer 1-2K pounds more.
I was in the same situaton and didn't want to order one because of the incentives. I got an SLT for 34K (plus tt&l). Sticker was 43K.
no way I can find an slt around here for 34k, could be the area(north east)? I'm looking at tradesman's with a few options for just north of 36k (43-44k msrp), don't know if there was better incentives at another time, but it seems most dealers will go 7-8k off of MSRP but not much more.
I also drove a 6.4 with 3.73's and another 6.4 with 4.10's and there was a difference but I would not call it night and day. I probably would have noticed it more if I was towing my trailer.
I think I might be ok with 3.73's also since we just got our 7600lb (wet) trailer so we won't be changing that any time soon....and when we do we will probably go smaller.
I had originally ruled out diesel given my truck is my DD (75 mile round trip) and only pull the trailer ~10 times a year....not enough to justify the 10k price tag for me. the 6.4 seems like a no brainer at $1500 with similar fuel mileage to the 5.7 why not have the larger motor? if I really want 4.10's seems like I'll have to order a 2015 and then I will loose the $4k in rebates. If I need the 4.10's that's one thing, but I'm thinking given my trailer's weight I probably don't?
