TO be honest, my biggest concern with the 6.4 is how much time you'll spend in the mountains with the trailer. It will pull it fine, but in steep grades, you'll spend a lot of time in 3rd and see 2nd. I am still happy with my purchase (saw diesel for $1.39 more than gas yesterday), but if I was pulling my trailer on that long of a trip, I would probably go diesel. I may do one big trip per year and then the rest will probably be under 200 miles each way. My trailer is about the same weight as yours, but a little longer. I averaged 7mpg over 2100 miles.
As far as price, the diesel was $8160 more plus the Aisin (which I didn't notice a huge difference in vs the 68rfe) was another $2995. So about $11k more msrp, but there are bigger discounts with the diesel, so the real difference (assuming equal incentives, because the gas had an extra $2000 rebate when I bought) ends up being about $8000 or so (not even thinking about extra fuel price). Still a lot extra, but might be worth it if you are in the Rockies a lot.
Good luck either way. Both are nice powertrains.
