Sally and Steve,
Great stuff! This is a good glimpse of something personal and worthwhile that we, stateside rarely get to see. thanks for the tour de Cornwall.
I live near a historic gold mining area called the Mother Load in Nevada City. In our sister city of Grass Valley they have a yearly ritual known as Cornish Christmas to associate themselves with the miners who came here 150 years ago from Cornwall. They were the only ones around with a good hard-rock mining experience. When there was gold involved, spare no expense. The lusty choirs sing, even sometimes down in the old mines of yore, fiddlers fiddle, people dress in 1850's get-up with top hats and hoop skirts, and there are myriad food booths and gee-gaw sales. It's a festival. Yes, Cornwall has left an indelible mark in gold country. Even our 1854 Holy Trinity Episcopal Church was built by Cornish shipwrights, shipped over here to put up mine timbers. Small world.
