Thanks for the nice words everyone. A few specific replies:
Sheriffdoug: Yes, we often get stares when driving past as truck campers are so rare over here - imagine you get the same reaction.
Led 67: Yes, was a good chance to try out something new (surfing). Not sure I'll be doing more of it, but worth the experience.
usmcshepherd: Both UK and Germany have a lot to offer. UK has so much coast line and Germany is really central in Europe. If you do decide to move over let us know.
SWD: I love the state / national park campgrounds in the US. Pity we don't have the same in the UK. These are all private campgrounds and tend to be more regimented, probably for practical / cost reasons.
Buzzcut1: Yes, I was thinking about the water where you are. I've made that mistake, looking at the Pacific near the Golden Gates and thinking it would be warm.
RobertRyan: Ice cream - yes, we could have done with some of that.
Camper_Jeff_& Kelli: To save money this site has installed posts for shore power that are shared amongst several sites. Maybe 50% of the places we camp do this. We actually carry 2 such extension cords and can daisy-chain them if necessary. In one campground in France we had to borrow a really long extension cord.
Seldomseensmith: I was amazed by how good the grass is there given that people have been driving over it all summer. They have a much larger field for group parties to camp in too, so I guess they must have a small farm tractor to mow the grass with rather than a domestic one.
Steve.
