We were there same time as you, I think. Left Boise on Tuesday, Went in on the north loop stayed at Jackman park, on to the top and down the South loop , (the map shows a steep and narrow section, we'll yeah it is, but good gravel and not as much wash board as the first part of the north loop). Photographed the wild horses on that section before reaching 205, turned south. Back up the East Steens road, stayed the night at Mann lake, on to 78 west to Burns. Back to Boise via I84.
Will do again, but not East Steens rd, way to much dust and gravel.
We kept seeing something dead and brown on the road (looking for stew meat) finally realized it was jack rabbits, be so long since I've seen one.
