3/4 mat and 3/4 plywood gets you there and you can double up the plywood behind he stall mats if you want the full 8’ long of support.
I’ve not found bed mats to be any more grippy than horse mats. I think you’ll find the same. If it’s soft enough to not maintain line between the ribs of the truck bed it’s as soft as a bed mat.
If it’s the surface finish that is slippery because it’s new, idk, scuff it up maybe? Hook it flat and drag it down the road to scuff it up.
