I HAD Maine Mutual Insurance up until last year. My TC coverage was $67/year and was added to my vehicle policy. Essentially, just another vehicle for MMG. It covered comprehensive and collision. Liability was covered under my trucks policy. What was important with my stand-alone policy was it covered it OFF the truck.....
In September of 2013 my neighbors tree snapped in a wind gust and.... you guessed it.... right through the roof of my TC.... insurance company sent an adjuster, looked it over, and considered it totaled, Had to haggle a little with them about the value but I ultimately prevailed.... minus my $500 deductible, they paid me what I came up with for a value (just over $18K at the time). I was also able to buy the camper back from them for a VERY good deal, spent about $400 to fix it myself, and it's as good as new as far as I'm concerned....... (see my related RV.net post
here here about that)
The UNFORTUNATE part of all this is when my policy came up for renewal last October..... they dropped me..... 17 years with them, this claim and a few windshield claims over the years and they dropped me.....
I asked them at the time of the incident what my homeowners policy would have paid because the camper was off the truck and just sitting in my yard. They told me they would have only paid a maximum of $3000 as "another structure" but my homeowners policy would have covered the clean-up of the tree minus my $1000 deductible.
I've since moved to SafeCo (apparently owned by Liberty Mutual) and everything is covered as it was before.... camper was just slightly more of a premium than MMG (around $100/year) and they didn't have a problem covering it even though it has previous damage. If something happens to it again they would pay the current value (taking into consideration it would be considered a "salvaged" camper)
I would highly recommend having a separate policy for a TC and not just rely on homeowners or a vehicle's policy to cover it, based on firsthand experience.
