Having experience from driving on different continents, I can fist-hand testify that US is having many vehicles on the road becouse they SIT THERE instead of driving.
You can make 300 miles on German autobahn in 2 hr and autobahns are 2-lanes.
Still be safer than making 300 miles in 5 hr on US freeways, who around big agglomerations have huge number of lanes.
Main issue I observe is that US has no law enforcement on the roads.
Took my California friends about 20 minutes of driving on autobahn to get pulled over for blocking fast lane.
