I carried my camper on a half ton for a year. It weighs about 1750 without any gear, 2500 ready to go, so I was well over my payload. I had airbags, upgraded to light truck tires and it did OK. Especially better than expected going up and down mountain passes and handled well. But I had to keep the tires a max pressure and I was dismayed at how much difference in handling even 10 pounds less per tire made. When you it a bump is when you can really tell you are overloaded. Not a good feeling. Since we now travel the northlands with all the frost heaves I upgraded to a one ton and even towing a trailer with a prius c and an atv on it I still have payload to spare, and just a factory tow package.
