The buying technique my DW and I always use and it works for us. We buy cars, trucks and fivers the same way. It doesn't matter if we buy off the lot or order. It also works with the trade in if you have one. If we find one on the lot the salesperson will start their pitch. Ours is always the same. We tell the this is the deal we will do. Also tell them this is the out the door price, tax title license etc. Now it may take a couple of hours but we are successful most of the time. The deal is still on until the salesperson walks away. As long as they are talking the deal is alive. At some point tell them you have to leave and if they want the deal now is the time to do it. If they say no ok the deal is dead. If not you will get what you want.
