truck size/trailer weight

We just bought a GMC Sierra 4wheel drive with a 5.3Lmotor ...tow rating says up to 9500 lbs. we have looked at a lightweight TT that weighs around 6000 dry weight. But it is 34 ft. Total. We have been told by many that we do not have enough truck to pull it.
What is your opinion?
