Let me say I have used Michelin tires for over forty years with good results. I have never had a failure in all of that time. This issue was rare for me. But I have done some research and found the Michelin light truck tire is not good for towing. The side walls are more flexible to give a better ride thus making it more prone to failure. Having three tires go bad in three thousand miles was a wake up call for me.
The manager of the tire store I went to told me it was obvious the failure was due to separation of the tread. The tire that was still on the truck was the left rear and it showed signs that it too was about to cause trouble. The truck has 37,000 miles on it and the first tire failure came at 34,000. When I went to the store in Michigan the store was busy all they wanted was to get me in and out in a hurry collecting all the money they could. So there wasn't a through inspection of the remaining tires on the truck. However having such good success with Michelin in the past I really didn't worry too much about the other tires.
Now that I am where I am with three tires blown and one tire about to go it makes me wonder about Michelin light truck tires. I wish now I had been able to look at Firestone truck tires before moving ahead with putting more of the same tires on the truck. It's like the person making the same mistake over and over expecting different results. Anyway I am in the boat so to speak with Michelin and will ride it out until I see trouble again, then I will certainly look some where else for tires.
