Since it is the air pressure that carries the load and not the tire sidewall, I really do not understand the "stronger sidewall" argument.
If you look at an ST type and LT type tire of same dimensions and Load Range you will see they are both rated for the same inflation.
Now the ST is rated to carry more load but that is primarily due to their max speed rating of 65 which means you need to drive in the 50 - 60 mph range and only see 65 for very short times (couple of minutes) when passing and never anything above 65.
LT tires can handle highway speeds.
