4400 lbs is split between both wheels on the same axle.
In other words, each wheel is rated to support 2200 lbs..
And, yeah, I am not a fan of using one of the wheels to support the entire weight of a trailer by driving up a ramp to lift a wheel off the ground.. It is real easy to overload the other axle and tire by doing so, but folks that do that, are not willing to listen to reason.
I personally use several well placed jacks, stands and blocking and lift one wheel at a time..
