TT info greatly appreciated

Thanks for the comprehensive info on towing and TT's. While I will review it before any purchases, i think I am going back to a small motorhome. I got so discouraged with mechanics not wanting to mess with motorhomes that I sold the little 24 ft. one I had. I need something small and don't want tohandle all the variables with towing. Doug

  • The smart move would be to take your best guess at what you want and rent one for a week or so.

A week or more in both types of RV, would separate fact from theory pretty fast.
  • Apples to oranges comparison. Each has its advantages and drawbacks.

For our use a 25 ft. TT is the optimum size; still others would find it unsuitable.
  • I could've drove the going to the sun road but instead took a Red Bus. Glad I did. Learned way more from the driver and had stops for photos that I couldn't of gotten if I were driving.
As far as a small TT and tow vehicle goes. I'd take the small MH if I were doing exstensive traveling. A B or B+ would be my choice. You can park it anywhere and if needed just put a few things away and site see. Most aren't much longer than my 2500 CC LB. Perfect for gassing up or grocery shopping. Easy to pull into site seeing spots as well.
On the other hand if I were to stay in one spot for extended periods of time like a week or longer I'd opt for a small TT and 1/2 ton truck. More livability in a small TT vs a small MH. Generally bigger tanks, shower, sleeping area and kitchen. The 1/2 ton truck will be easier to maneuver around when site seeing. Even some SUV's could handle a 21+' TT easily.
  • In addition, there are certain roads that restrict travel based on length and height.

For example, if you get a motorhome > 21' you can't drive the going to the sun road. I can't drive it towing my TT, but can in just my tow vehicle.

Something else to keep in mind when making you decision.
  • ^^^^ What he said. After the initial hitch setup is completed, there's nothing additional to do. Just hook up and go.

It is really not that difficult. Once you get the balance, and hitch right. You just hook, and go. you don't have to adjust anything every time. it is a one time deal, and not that hard.

And very convenient as well. Once at your site. You don't need to break camp to go sightseeing as you would with a MH.
