TT Roof

I damaged the rubber roof on my 2006 Pioneer with a tree limb. The repair shop said also some of the underlayment was delimnating (sp).
they recommend putting new underlayment (1/4 plywood)on top of the existing rubber roof and new rubber on top of the underlayment. So in affect I would have two roofs on the TT.
Is this a good fix? Thanks for your comments. John

  • I had someone over to the house for estimates on a remodel job. He reccommended painting over wall paper. The suggested repair sounds like the same thing to me.
  • Aside from the argument of whether it is a good fix or not (i don't think I would want it), this fix would add more weight to your trailer.

New roofs are expensive, though. The local mobile RV repairman just up the road from us charges a flat $400, plus $100 per linear foot of trailer. Our 26 DB would be $3,000 for a new roof.
  • I did contact my insurance co. I took it to the RV shop that they recommend. And they approved it. John

  • Not too sure if I like roof layers on roof layers. Being "old technology" person and having DIY skills in many different areas, I'd rather strip its entire roof down to its studs, install more studs between its existing factory studs (to create 12" apart instead of its factory 24" apart), then install new 1/4" plywood. And, instead of installing EDP sheets (that shed and create black streaks), I'd install liquid rubber roof on the plywood surface. This liquid stuff (applied with brush / roller) doesn't create black streaks. I'd do above if I plan to keep RV/TT for 3+ years. If selling / trading RV/TT within 3 years, I'd apply liquid rubber roof only over its damaged roof area. Low cost fix for the short term. Your choice.
  • Sounds more like a "patch" than a fix. It might work, but you will always know that it is not right.
