I recall the RV salesman suggesting they could install a special RV rugged TV. That was before I knew much about anything RV-wise. Now, years later, I am glad I just put in one that a friend gave to me that was sitting around in his garage unused.

Just make sure the TV has the correct bolt pattern for your TV mount. There are a couple different standards depending on size.

Think outside the box - errr opening. Repourpose the opening and mount the new/larger TV on a swingout in front of the opening or elsewhere.

You don't have to get a cheap one. Better ones will work too.

Those dinosaurs are fading rapidly. You'll enjoy the much improved TV quality. Add shelves or cabinet doors above the new TV or otherwise modify the entire opening.

I picked up a 24-inch VIZIO from WALMART for my OFF-ROAD POPUP trailer operations. This was more than enough size wise for what we needed for the small floor plan of our off-road POPUP trailer.

I found one that still used the 120VAC ADAPTER BLOCK that plugged into a DC connection port on the back of the VIZIO TV set. This allowed me to either use 120VAC using the adapter or the DC Voltage from the battery setup plugging directly into the TV set. This was a few years back and I found a DC Adapter cord plug from Radio Shack that fit the VIZIO DC port.

Without finding a TV SET that has a DC POWER PORT you will have to use a small PURE SINE WAVE POWER Converter to run the TV directly from your Trailer battery when camping off-grid... My 24-inch VIZIO fit in place of this small TV set I was originally using..

I use the standard Winegard Batwing antenna up on a portable TV mast that I can install in minutes when setting up... Works great for us camping off-grid...

If you always just use camp ground sites that has 120VAC Pedestals than this is no issue for you. Just get a TV set that plugs into 120VAC.

Cheap is sometimes more expensive.
Went through 2 Element TV's in 1 year.

My biggest problem was that the shape of the televisions has changed. I had a large, almost square inset that the original TV filled. I matched the width with the new one and still had open space in the top one third of the opening.

Don't forget some library's have DVD's as well. Where my seasonal is I can't get over the air tv. With a subscription to the local library I get the movies rent free (limit 3 at a time). TV'S should not be turned on when cold until the RV warms up of a winter. Condensation forms and can damage the tv.

Ours is rather basic, but it has a built in DVD player. No need for a dedicated unit with wires dangling from the wall where the TV is mounted.

We buy a mittfull of the cheapo 5 dollar DVDs from WalMart, break out the popcorn or chips and beverage of choice, plug the movie into the side of the TV and sit there and enjoy.

Redbox allows you to rent in one location and return in another, we took advantage of that when the kids were smaller and rented about 20 DVDs in the Florida Keys and returned half in Tennessee and half in Ohio, best $30 I've ever spent.
