You might be interested to note that Ford claims (in my manual for the F350) that if you follow their directions for setting up the trailer brake controller, the truck's computer applies ABS type logic to the trailer braking as well.---
Avoid towing in adverse weather conditions. The trailer brake controller does not provide anti-lock control of the trailer wheels. Trailer wheels can lock up on slippery surfaces, resulting in reduced stability of trailer and tow vehicle.
It should be possible to program the brake controller to reduce the current to the trailer brakes when the TV goes into ABS mode, and that would tend to reduce the likelihood of TT brake lock up.
However, to ensure the TT brakes do not lock up would require speed sensors on the TT wheels with feedback to the integrated brake controller.
That means true ABS action cannot be provide by the IBC.
As regards operating a vehicle when loaded in excess of GVWR --
Federal safety standards require a vehicle to achieve specified braking performance criteria when loaded to GVWR.
If the vehicle is loaded in excess of its GVWR, it might not be able to meet the federal requirements.
