This are very interesting discussions, but I believe the biggest problem with stopping distance, trailer braking, pulling power, gas mileage and a host of other things we debate, is TIME.
Theory hit reality when;
Your TV is five years old and no longer factory prime.
The TT has some miles and its age and tire wear is showing.
And most important the operator is tired, careless, distracted, surprised or old enough to have lost the cat-like reflexes of his youth.
Since safety seems to be the main concern for a proper TV and TT match-up, I would hazard a guess that most accidents and near misses are the result operator errors rather than the difference between a ½ ton and a ¾ ton TV.
Lack of attention often negates the best of technology
I confess I've had similar thoughts and cringe many times when I read that phrase "relaxed tow" and often think I'd rather meet a guy white knuckling it, at least he's paying attention.
