Relax tow for me does not mean not paying attention. I believe it means having the right equipment to provide optimum towing performance in all conditions.
I can't imagine why anyone would want a white knuckle tow.
The relax state is the result of confidence one develops knowing their combo is properly matched and within all of its parameters.
It is also based on experience and skill one develops from safely towing in all weather, terrain and traffic conditions.
Relaxed is knowing your combo is safe and well maintained. Relaxed is not having to worry that your combo or driving ability will put you in danger or fail to perform as designed at anytime.
That's a pretty good concise summation that I agree with and IMO the HUGE disadvantage of not having that confidence is the toll it takes on your ability to remain focused on what is happening and for lack of better words not feeling "WIPED" at the end of the day. Of course has a direct correlation also.
I'm also a big believer in never sitting behind the wheel towing for more than two hours w/o stopping and at least walking up to the rest area restrooms and back. That 5 to 10 min break has a HUGE IMPACT on your overall ability to remain alert when towing.
