My funfinder also has a fixed front window ( non opening ) with a hinged rock guard. The rock guard is just that...it would do nothing to prevent water from coming in. As always, they key to keeping this area dry is to maintain the seal.
I too like it ( front bed area ) because it is one more opening to let light in during the day. That was my biggest complaint of older trailers years ago, too few and too small windows. I prefer the open "lots of outside light" feeling of modern campers.
