As far as quality is concerned, in my opinion only, Toyota has gone downhill, while other brands have made some improvements.
Case and point. MIL just fried the rings on the engine in her Tacoma.
The fan blew apart (catastrophic failure), and took out the radiator, leading to loss of coolant, and that fried the rings, in about a minute. Dealership mechanic says he's never seen anything like it.
So much for Toyota quality. I would not expect a truck with 120k miles that has been babied and well maintained all of its life to do that.
So, the whole "Toyota is better quality" argument is, at least in my opinion, a thing of the past.
New radiator, fan, fan shrouds, belts, hoses, and a 100k used engine put in there, 5600, out the door. Assuming everything works.
So much for Toyota quality. Nothing really to do with the Tundra argument, just a little side story. Sorry for the thread hijack.
