wow, you'd think the OP asked which is better, Diesel or Gas?
The OP asked for opinions on 2 very different trucks without stating all of the details of the trailer to be pulled. without knowing the specs of the trailer and the other needs of the driver we can't really recommend one over the other.
without knowing the specs of the trailer, one might say play it safe and recommend the beefier truck. however most of us don't tow full time and use our tow vehicle as our daily driver way more than a tow vehicle. so we must balance safety along with a pleasurable drive when not towing.
If the priority is a nicer ride and a 1/2 ton truck will handle the weight of the trailer then the Tundra would be my recommendation (I put 110k miles on mine without any problems and it towed my 28' 7600lb TT without trouble ~ 10 times a year. it was also a fantastic driving truck for my ~70 mile daily commute.
My new truck is a 4x4 F250 6.2l CCSB, I went this route because many times I was over my payload by a good margin with everything I had in the truck. the Tundra handled it, but not as comfortably as I would like. had I been only a few hundred pounds over weight I would have kept her. However, I was routinely 1000 pounds over my payload when fully loaded and it still handled it pretty well.
I opted to upgrade to the 3/4 ton truck purely for safety because, my wife, kids, kids friends and dog are counting on me not to take chances with their safety. Now, the ride when empty is very stiff compared to the Tundra, but that's the compromise I had to make for my situation.
the OP's situation and trailer specs may be very different and he may be well within his limits with the 30' trailer, it just depends on his specs and needs.
Sure there will always be a more capable truck, but that doesn't make it the right truck for the job.
I'm only throwing in my $.02 since I owned and towed a 28' TT with a Tundra and currently own a 3/4 ton which I hope helps the OP.
The only correct answer to the OP is to figure out what is important for his needs and to stay within your capacities doing it....if the 1/2 "ticks all the boxes", then that is the better vehicle for him.
