Get a nice piece of hardwood from your local lumbaryard, maybe 1" thick.
Bolt it to the wall using the existing threaded holes.
Before that run some bolts through the wood, an inch or 3 higher than where they are now.
Now connect the wood to the wall then your bracket to the wood.
OR...raise your head
OR...lower the obstruction :R
