It's a solid setup. I'm happy with how it turned out.
Although I didn't need a stud finder to mount the outside bracket I had one and tested it in the area I knew there was a stud. It was like my past experiences using a stud finder in the house, I would only count on it as additional evidence of a stud. Sometimes it indicated one, sometimes it didn't and the edge indications weren't always the same. Again, in this case it didn't matter for me as I was able to "see" the stud and make reference measurements off it, giving me a much higher level of confidence that I wasn't drilling in the wrong place.
