TV Rear Tires

Just curious what everyone else does with their rear TV tires when towing? Do you bring the inflation up to tire max or keep at recommended level for vehicle?
  • I run my rear TV tires at max rating when towing our 5er. :)

I bring mine up clse to maximum so that the additional load is within spec for the tires. What I have found is that I don't bother to let the air back out when no longer towing so now I have harder pressures at rear than at front. But the truck does better on mileage and it feels no different.
  • On my F150 when towing I ran max of 44psi when I had P's on it. Switched to E's and ran 50psi. Non towing I ran the door sticker IIRC was 34-35psi.

On my 3/4 ton I run the door sticker for non towing. 65f-45r. Towing I run 75f 80r. Depending on frequency of towing I sometimes leave the towing psi in. If I'm going every other weekend I leave the towing psi in. Anything longer than two weeks between trips I air down. I'm retired so my driving is way less than a working guy so I don't put more than 100-150 miles on the truck between camping trips.
  • On my half ton I went to about 50PSI F/R in LT tires. On my 3/4 ton, I run 10psi over MFR recommendations all summer, so 60psi front and 70psi rear. I run at MFR recommendations in the winter.
  • I leave mine at 65 or 70 all the time. Front stays at 80. Michelin ltx ms-2. 20 k on them like that and all looks fine.
  • I air my tires up the day before I hook on to the fiver. I usually run 75 lbs. in the rear, and 70 up front. I had steel valves installed on the inner rear wheels. Makes adding air a breeze. Best 40 bucks I have ever spent. I do take a small air compressor with me. Just in case I need to add air to the RV tires or Trail Air system on my fiver.
