TV Transmision

I'm looking to upgrade my TV and have two trucks that are the same expect the trans. & diff. in mind.
one is a 2009 Chev with 5.3, 4 speed trans. 3:73 diff.
the other is a 2010 Chev with 5.3, 6 speed trans. 3:42 diff.
My question which trans (the 4 spd or the 6 spd) would be the best option. I tow a 6000# TT about 50% of the time. any comments are welcome. Thank you. John
  • Six speed easily. I tow with a 5.3 and 4spd and on the hwy im always wanting that "3rd and a half" gear that would be perfect. The six speed will give you that ie. More choice of ratios for any givin situation. Oh ya i also have 373s.

  • The 6-spd will offer 18% more torque in first gear, 2 extra usable towing gears, plus better fuel economy unloaded. Get that one. Make sure it has RPO Z82 listed on the sticker in the glove box.
  • +1 on the 6-speed. You'll never get into 4th with the 4-speed.

I assume that the 4 speed is 4 speed with O/D. My choice would be the trick with the 3:73 rear end. It will give you more torque for towing.

No, it won't. This has been discussed before. With the 6 speed, you actually get a lower overall ratio even with the taller rear end. Get the 6 speed.
