We have a F150 TV, 27' TT total weight around 7600lbs. Reese DC anti-sway WD system. all of my weights are good after I have been over the scales. My max trailer weight for the pickup is 8000#. The truck has 3.31 gears. We are thinking about upgrading to an F250. Will pulling the TT be better with a 3/4 ton pickup especially in windy conditions?

As a rule bigger is better because you have more capacity to spare, particularly on your max cargo capacity.Most TVs can pull a lot more then they can carry. I think you will find your loaded for the trip tongue weight is at least 800 or 900 lbs. That does not leave a lot for people and gear. Check the change in truck weight with and without the trailer and see how much cargo capacity you have left.

I have checked the weight with both of us in the TV. We are not at max but we are less than a 1000#'s from the GCWR. The F150 pulls ok until we get on a steep grade or a heavy cross wind (that is when the white knuckles show up), but I am not in any hurry where I go anyway. We were just wondering if the heavier F250 would help out on windy conditions.

Yes, the F250 would make a better overall tow vehicle! It will be heavier, with heavier suspension, much stronger frame, more stable E-rated tires, all of which will help in windy towing. It will also come with a lower geared differential, great towing mirrors, and an integrated brake controller.The downside is more fuel cost, when not towing, and a stiffer ride. If your truck is a daily driver, and you don't tow often, or long distances, you have to decide if a HD tow vehicle is what you want.I enjoy driving my 250, get about 8-10 mpg towing, and about 15 mpg empty at 65-70 mph.Jerry

What are the white knuckles you are experiencing on a steep grade? What exactly is it doing in crossswinds? any problems may be covered up by a 3/4 ton. I`m thinking your not setup properly!

Yes. A 250/2500 will handle towing much better than a standard 150. LT tires, heavier springs and suspension, heavier axles and frame all contribute to a more stable tow. Plus, now you have a good reason to option it out with more gadgets like a backup camera for hitching up. No one has ever said they regretted replacing their 1/2 ton with a 3/4 or 1 ton for towing.

Thanks for everyones input. The crosswind that we had was about a 30 mph gusty side wind. I know that pulling a billboard will catch a lot of wind. There was a lot of sway, so I replaced the friction type anti-sway to the Reese DC type. I haven't had to pull in those windy conditions with this setup to see how it reacts. I do love the DC when big rigs pass me up tho. Very little drift.

I came to this thread because I thought it was about tv's. Turns out it's about TV's. In either case however, bigger is always better.

I could not believe the difference in comfort and piece of mind when I made the upgrade to a 250. (Or a 50" with 4K resolution for that matter!)

we upgraded to a 2016 F250. After the WD adjustments, 13% tongue weight, level trailer, the difference is like night and day on pulling our trailer. Plus like KROBBE said, we got a whole lot more bells and whistles on the truck. That made it even better....Thanks for everyones input. :)
