tv/dvd player

We have an 2014 Arctic Fox 1150 and are looking to get a combo tv/dvd player. Is there a brand you would recommend and also what size screen.
  • My stock 2008 Jensen Radio/CD/DVD player is now starting to have some problems and was thinking of going with a combo tv/dvd led TV and just unplugging the Jensen. Does this Insigna combo have a 12V plug. I would rather not use a 120V inverter. Can you just cut the cord and wire it up to a 12V plug. Thanks.

Yes. You will want to look at the wall transformer that comes with it to be sure. It will say 12 volts dc on it.

We went with the suggestion from Victory402 and IAMICHABOD we got the 24" Insignia combo by Best Buy and it has a great picture. Now to install it in the Camper. Thanks again for your input

Good deal, if you need help getting it to work off of 12 volts, just let us know. Vic

Thanks for the info - I bought one of these (20 inch Insignia combo) yesterday.
I had been looking for cheaper 12V combo unit for some time!

Looks like this may run fine with the Camper's 12V (11.5 - 14.5V range I suppose) - or are any of you you using anything to regulate the the TV's voltage to 12V?
  • lso bought insignia has great picture easy to hook up 12 volt only thing if a lot going on does not have much volume
  • TVs that are made for RV use have conformal coating on their circuitry. It protects from moisture and climate changes, plus vibration. Jensen makes several models for specific RV use and thats why a lot of RV manufacturers use Jensen TVs. I have one that is 5 years old and still works great. I bought an RCA with built in DVD player and that failed after about a year. The Jensen has the conformal coating and the RCA did not. I am replacing the RCA with the same older style Jensen model that I found on Ebay for $139 plus free shipping (NOS). It also has the speaker in the front unlike so many of the newer small units that have the speakers in the rear, thus giving it much better sound quality.
  • I've had 'non rv' tv's ride around in my 5th wheel for years and they still work. Besides they probably experience just as much shock and jolts in the delivery truck.

Even if I have to replace my tv every 2 years I'm still farther ahead and I get something with newer tech anyways. If you can find them cheap then sure get a Jensen but Jensen stuff is bottom of the barrel junk (so is RCA) and I refuse to pay top dollar for it.

I priced the Jensen recommended tv from my dealer and it was almost $600, I bought my 12v Insignia for $79 ( I know Insignia is not a good brand but it's so cheap it's disposable)
