I live in Newport News, we camp often near Virginia beach.
Trav-l holiday campground comes to mind. When you grow tired of the beach they have 3 swimming pools and alot to keep you interested at the CG. Not to mention in the evening you can walk to boardwalk.
However you need to convince your wife to atleast try beach camping
