Tyre pressures

Weight of ouer F350 single rear tyers 1680lb front 2350lb. Tyers Michelin LTX A/T 275/65 R20 rated at 3750lb at 80 psi. Ford recommends 65lb front 80lb rear. According to michelins load and inflation tables I se 2080lb at 35 psi and 2475lb at 45psi.
What are others using and how low would you go.
Frank.

Michelin's numbers are the tyre's maximum load capacity at those pressures. That is not the same as a recommended pressure. I would ask, why would you want to run your tyres at their maximum load capacity when you can increase that capacity by just increasing pressure? I wouldn't.

I use my truck manufacturer's recommended pressures plus 5 lbs for loaded and unloaded but no more than 80 psi cold in my E rated tyres.

    On Edit.

Does Ford not publish different pressures for loaded and unloaded?

I gave you some. Realize that some folks here wouldn't know the difference between a blow job and a baloney sandwich....... Or just may not remember when the last time was they had one of the 2!

Yep, most just don't get that one pressure doesn't fit all loads! Plenty of useful information in here and other tyre pressure threads, just too many that don't get it that a tire rated a say 3,415# at 80 psi, is OVER inflated if only carrying 1,500#!

    Inflation charts, Infation charts!!!!!
  • An inflation chart is not a recommended pressure. It just gives a tyre's load capacity at a given pressure. A vehicle's recmmended pressure is the manufacturer's compromise between performance, wear and ride. Granted, you don't want to run 80 psi on the rears of an empty truck. Ram gives empty and loaded recommended pressures for their trucks. Recommended front pressures don't change but the rears vary between 45 psi and 75 psi depending on load. What does Ford do?

The Brits spell it that way. As a matter of fact it is spelled that way in quite a few places outside North America.

And the Canucks spell labor, labour and about, aboot, but in the US it's labor, about and tire!
Edit, maybe they just say "aboot!" Lol
  • Americans also say EKG for electrocardiogram even though cardio is spelt with a C not a K. So what.
  • Wilber1 no ford only gives one set of pressures 65 and 80, at least you know a little about the rest of the world, English is not my language, or American for that matter.

Then using a load chart for the rears if you aren't towing might be a good idea. Just err on the high side. I run 75 to 80 in my rears when towing my fiver but drop them down to 50 if I'm staying anywhere for more than two weeks. I carry a Viair compressor so I can change tire pressures easily while on the road.
