Under Bed Storage Ideas

JMO but under the bed is the last place we'd use for storage as it's just so inconvenient to get to, especially if you have to lift the bed platform to access it. I've solved that in several trailers we've owned including our current Coachmen by installing cabinet doors on the end of the bed platform, eliminating the need to lift the platform itself.



We do find this area convenient for storing a couple of empty 7 gal grey water Aquatainers, spare tent and bedding for one of our sons who occasionally joins us, and a laundry basket for dirty laundry. For bulky items we find this ottoman quite handy as it also serves nicely as a foot rest when sitting on the sofa.

Where did you find the matching cabinet doors? I would love to do that in ours.

Unfortunately we have limited space for clothing so under the bed has become a necessity. Does won't work because this is the space I'm working with at the foot of the bed. Thank you for your ideas though!

The trailer manufacturer, in my current case Coachmen. A tape measure told me the dimensions I needed and as it happened the cabinet doors above the stove were exactly what I needed so I simply ordered 2 more from the dealer. At the rear of our trailer we have a two door pantry with totally wasted space at the bottom that was sealed in ... I removed the panelling and with my tape measure in hand found a suitable cabinet door from another Coachmen model that matched perfectly.

A little more work is involved but drawers installed under the bed would be an idea.

You can also go to a dealers lot with the same make of TT (if not too old) and look at different models. You will likely find a number of different sizes as options. I had some custom size doors made up at a cabinet shop once and was too expensive and would not do it again.

I'm just in the process of putting a couple of drawers in one end of our under-bed storage. Won't be finished for a day or two or otherwise would post a photo.

You can make your own drawer/door fronts by saving the cutout piece and making a frame from 1x2 hardwood and staining to match. You'll need at least a table saw and clamps to do this. The 1st pic below shows a large drawer I did in a previous TT. You can also make drawer fronts by gluing together pieces of 1x2, 1x3 or 1x4. A cabinet door with a solid flat front won't look quite right. The second pic shows a couple of solid drawer fronts I also did the same TT in what was originally a deep cubby hole that was rather impractical.

My preference is drawers since you can get better utilization of the space. If you don't have the tools it's not an option though.

We had our 91 year old cousin build us a big drawer. It will hold 90 pounds on the slide. We keep most of our food in it. Best thing for storage we have ever did. And we made a 60 day trip last year, and plan on 5 months this year

Yes, very handy.
Our 2006 Sunline TT had a drawer under each side of the bed. It was a standard build right from the manufacturer.
