Under chassis mounted generator

Has anyone ever had any experience with installing a diesel generator in the place of the spare tire?

Powertech did make a unit we had considered once in a sprinter van conversion we built but I sold the van before I ever got that far.

I am thinking thru options for a generator for our TC and I don't mind doing something like this so the power source is always with the truck and not just with the TC.

    How will you protect it from the mud,snow , rain and salt , in that location ?

    I think there might be a problem getting rid of the heat. Also, I don't think it is deep enough unless you plan to run it very low. I'd consider a front hitch.

    The Powertech I found is 3000 watts I think. From what I can find there are not many options...and they are expensive...but I would still like to know the options before I choose a solution for my generator needs. I like the convenience of using the same truck fuel and then being able to have the generator with my truck when we move the 5th wheel trailer also.
