I used light duty plumbers tape, and it held up well for about 4 years. It is only 3/4" wide and about 20 gauge.
You could also use a electrical conduit clamp, or some sheet metal that is thicker and a bit stronger.
You might also be able to find some U-bolts in 4" size. Or buy some 1/4" allthread and drill holes into the frame, then bolt the tubes with the allthread bent around the tubing, and cut to length.
