Yes, square is better IMO. You can even slide in a ladder that folds up pretty small. Can also slide in rain gutter in case you need something to elevate sewer tube to drain at campground.
Also give some thought of what to do for hinges or whichever way you want to keep the end caps on. I ended up with a bungee cord because I couldn't make up my mind what I wanted. Still looking for best way, and bungee cord still working great.
I also painted mine to match under side of RV. I used Ace hardware paint. But be sure to scratch up fence post with some sand paper first because they are pretty slick and paint didn't want to stick in some places.
