More tire wear on the rear of a towing vehicle is not unheard of, it's the constant high torque on the rear wheels from pulling a sail at highway speeds. I've experienced it.
But 5/32" in 9,000 miles, with a Tacoma? That seems excessive.
Is the wear even across the tread width?
Tire pressure?
Has the vehicle possibly got a bent axle?
