If you aren't going to share the "long story" will you at least tell us if it's something likely to repeat itself?
If it's some sort of repeated abuse, you might be better off welding up a proper fix that can accommodate the abuse. If you get a new truck, it would just happen again.
If it was a one time issue not likely to repeat, I would lean towards a new truck that hasn't taken the abuse.
