I would like to remind all our internet MBA's that they must maintain a full environmental view to their product lineups and decisions. GM must balance cost and revenue while meeting world government regulations.
Could you imagine the negative press from the Sierra Club if GM announced that all million pickups were going to come standard with a 6 liter or bigger engine? The actual truth that it was more efficient would not matter.
I drove a 6.2 Yukon XL Denali in 2010 as well as a 5.3 Yukon XL. The 6.2 obtained higher MPG for me. I do more highway and rural driving.
What I take away from this challenge is how well the 5.3 did, and the overall package of the Silverado. I am currently driving a 2wd 1500 CC SB Silverado (with 6sp transmission). I have over 17k miles on the truck, and average over 20mpg. I have done some towing with the truck (at max). I am also amazed with brakes. There was a time that my truck stopped shorter than I imagined (due to another individual that does not understand the concept of yielding to the right of way).
So I think this was a valid assessment of the vehicles with the details that they posted for the assessment. We can all use the information as we want. And the best thing is, we all have a variety of choices to meet our needs or wants.
Did the Sierra club care that diesels have grown in displacement while meeting very strict emissions standards?
